Commit to Framework Development

We've brought together a core group to look at the challenges of integrating rich digital 3D content into scholarly archaeological publications. We are still looking for qualified participants to commit to a mock submission and review exercise, based on the pilot publication we are developing within this project. Participation in this activity requires a commitment to attend a series of virtual meetings in which a draft review framework will be established, review drafts of the pilot publication and comment on the process and experience of reviewing the integrated digital/narrative content, and contribute feedback at the end of the project.

Ideas behind the Actions

During a normal peer review process the authors do not know the identities of the reviewers. Within the scope of this activity, what we will have is a pool of 'potential peer reviewers' - a group of people who a press or journal board might ask to act as reviewers on the basis of their areas of expertise. We want to have an open process with this group, in which we use drafts of our pilot publication as a case study, and work as a group to develop a shared frame of reference and process for reviewing the digital and 3d modeling materials together with the text. This activity is entirely separate from the eventual submission of our pilot publication to a journal/press, at which point it would be reviewed formally.
